CASTLETON, Vt. – Vermont State University Castleton was defeated by SUNY Plattsburgh in a 1-0 contest Wednesday evening.
VTSU Castleton and SUNY Plattsburgh battled in a close contest at Dave Wolk Stadiums. The two teams faired even in possession and shots throughout the game. Sophomore's
Kristina O'Neil and
Gwen Bridges lead the Castleton's defense to help limit the threat the Cardinals presented.
It wouldn't be until the 60th minute when Claire Bottjer received a deep pass that allowed her to go on a breakaway and put one away for the Cardinals to give them the only goal of the match. Despite the strong late efforts from Castleton, Plattsburgh was able to hold on and secure their first win of the season and give Castleton their first loss.
VTSU Castleton returns to action Sunday, September 8 at 1 p.m. against New England College.
