CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton field hockey team fell to defending national champions Middlebury on Tuesday night, 7-0.
The No. 1 ranked Panthers set the pace in the first half with four goals on 20 shots.
Zoe Martin made seven saves in the first half, while the Spartan defense blocked six shots in the first half, before adding three more blocked shots in the second. Rookie
Gwyn Vincent had the Spartans lone shot on goal for the night.
The Panthers struck twice more in the third, before sealing the win with a seventh goal three minutes into the fourth quarter. Caroline Segal and Georgianne Defeo each netted two goals for the Panthers. Martin saved seven more shots in the second half for a total of 14 on the night.
The Spartans are back in action on the road on Saturday, September 7 against Albertus Magnus at 3 p.m.
