LEWISTON, Maine – The Vermont State University Castleton field hockey team fell to No. 12 Bates on Sunday afternoon, 6-0.
The Bobcats first goal came less than one minute into the game, with their second coming right as the first quarter ended, both scored by Anna Cote.
Zoe Martin and the Spartans defense were able to limit the Bobcats to one goal in the second quarter giving them a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
The Bobcats fourth goal came five minutes into the third quarter before
Peyton Richardson fired off the Spartans lone shot of the day off a penalty corner. The Spartans held the Bobcats to four shots in the third quarter.
The Bobcats found the back of the cage once again two minutes into the fourth quarter, with Martin saving her final shot of the day shortly after to give her nine saves total on the day. With seven minutes left in the game the Bobcats scored again to secure the 6-0 win. Ava Donohue and Kailie Jacobsen shared time in the cage to earn the shutout for the Bobcats.
The Spartans are back in action at Dave Wolk Stadium on Wednesday, October 2 against Russell Sage College at 4 p.m.
