CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team fell Little East Conference opponent Western Connecticut 1-0, Saturday afternoon.
WestConn's Kelly Martyanov knocked in the game-winning goal from a delivered ball by Suzana Imetovski in the 67th minute. The Wolves improve to 2-0 in conference play, while Castleton falls to 1-1.

Gwen Bridges anchored the Spartans defense by logging a full 90-minutes in Saturday's contest. The defensive pair turned away the WestConn's offensive threat with multiple interceptions and shutdown plays to keep the game scoreless within reach for the Spartans. Junior

The Spartans took six shots in the match, with the closest opportunity coming in the 72nd minute when the Spartans earned themselves a free kick from 40-yards away.
Lauren Fotter played a high floating kick that ricocheted off the crossbar and found
Becky Hannwackers foot, who rifled the ball back towards the net and just missed the equalizer Castleton was looking for.
The Wolves were able to keep the ball in the Spartans corner for the remaining minutes of the match and hold off Castleton.
VTSU Castleton returns to action Sunday, September 29 against Colby-Sawyer for a 12 p.m. kick-off on the road.
