Chargers Blank Women's Soccer

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team was defeated by Colby-Sawyer in a 2-0 contest Sunday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer's Bridget O'Connell scored her seventh goal of the season in the 22nd minute to open the scoring in Sunday's match. Shortly after, Halle Pletzer knocked in the Chargers second goal in the 25th minute to extend their lead.

The Spartans made a valiant effort with 11 of their 14 shots coming from the second half.  The trio of Alexis Billings, Maggie McKearin, and Becky Hannwacker each registered two shots on goal for Castleton. Junior Emma Ezzo made six big saves to keep the Spartans comeback alive.

Despite the strong offensive efforts, the Chargers were able to hold off the Spartans and pick up the victory.

VTSU Castleton returns to action Wednesday, October 2 at 6:30 p.m. against Little East Conference opponent Keene State.
