DANBURY, Conn. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's soccer team was defeated by Western Connecticut, 5-1 Saturday afternoon.
West Conn. extended their undefeated streak to six games and improved to 2-0 in Little East Conference play after defeating VTSU Castleton, who now drops to 0-2 in the conference. The Wolves started quickly with a goal in the sixth minute to take an early 1-0 lead.
The game settled down as the two teams battled throughout the first half, but West Conn would find the back of the net and head into the half with a 2-0 lead.
Xander Berthiaume and
JP Maul shared time in the net with the pair combining for 10 saves in Saturday's contest.
Stanley Andersen led the team in shots with five and tallied his first goal of the season in the 76th minute.
West Conn's Nickolas Santana provided two goals for the Wolves and George Cortes knocked away WestConn's final goal to finalize the scoring at 5-1.
VTSU Castleton returns home for LEC action against Keene State on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m.
