CASTLETON Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton field hockey team earned its second shutout of the season Tuesday evening, 5-0 against Westfield State.
The Spartans opened the first quarter trading shots back and forth with the Owls before
Gwyn Vincent notched her fourth goal of the season with three minutes left in the quarter. In the second quarter both teams traded shots back and forth, with
Zoe Martin saving her second and final shot of the night five minutes into the second quarter. The Spartans struck once more before the half ended, with
Emily Downing finding the back of the cage with eight minutes left in the half.
Peyton Richardson opened the second half for the Spartans netting her third goal of the season two minutes into the third quarter. The Spartans then had eight penalty corners before Richardson found the back of the cage again for her second goal of the day from
Sierra McDermott.
The Spartans solidified the win with
Haley Lassen dishing out an assist to
Jess Smithson three minutes into the fourth quarter.
The Spartans are back on the road on Saturday, September 28 against Thomas at 6 p.m.
