Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – The Vermont State University field hockey team outlasted Thomas Saturday night, winning 3-2 off a game-winning goal from
Peyton Richardson.
Richardson's goal came with just 25 seconds left in the game with Thomas having two penalty corner chances in those last 25 seconds.
The Terriers outshot the Spartans 13-8, scoring the first goal of the game with one minute remaining in the first quarter. The Terriers struck again three minutes into the second quarter before the Spartans had an answer.
Sierra McDermott notched her second goal of the season with three minutes remaining in the half.
Haley Lassen found the back of the cage two minutes into the third quarter to tie the game for the Spartans. The two teams traded shots and penalty corners back and forth for the rest of the quarter, with
Zoe Martin saving her third and final shot of the day with four minutes left in the third quarter.
The two teams traded fouls back-and-forth in the fourth quarter before Richardson found the back of the cage to secure the win for the Spartans.
The Spartans are back in action tomorrow, September 29 at Bates College at 12 p.m.
