SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton field hockey team fell to Skidmore Tuesday evening, 3-0.
The Thoroughbreds were on the board two minutes into the first quarter with Colby Paul finding the back of the cage. The Spartans were held to no shots in the first quarter, while the Thoroughbreds put up three. The second quarter was quiet before the Thoroughbreds struck again eight minutes in with Paul's second goal of the day. The Spartans were able to get one shot off to end the first half.
The Spartans began the third quarter with a penalty corner that was shot wide, before the two teams would exchange penalty corners for the rest of the quarter. The fourth quarter began the same with a Spartans penalty corner which was saved by Victoria Bodnar for her second of two saves on the night. The Thoroughbreds secured the win with one more goal three minutes into the fourth quarter, with one of their six shots in the quarter.
Zoe Martin made two saves to end the game, giving her six on the day.
The Spartans are back in action at Dave Wolk Stadium on Friday, September 20 at 7 p.m.
