MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Vermont State University men's golf team competed in day one of the Duke Nelson Invitational on Saturday at Middlebury College's Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
The Spartans shot 342 as a team, led by
Brady Hathorn's opening round of 81.
Andrew Stefura shot 84 out of the No. 2 spot in the lineup followed by
Dominic Rodrigue at 88 and
Jake Barry at 89.
Jack Boyle, making his collegiate debut, shot 95.
The Spartans are just one stroke behind MCLA in the team scoring, with the Trailblazers shooting 341 on Saturday. Hartford College leads the field at 298 with Hamilton's Roman Aroca Gonzalez leading individually with a one-under 70.
The second and final round tees off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
