BARRE, Vt. – The Vermont State University men's golf team took to the links at Country Club of Barre on Wednesday, shooting a 341 as a team at the Tony Mariano Invitational hosted by Norwich University.
The Spartans were just three strokes shy of a top-five finish, trailing Keene State and Norwich (B) which both shot 338. Gordon College took the top spot as a team at 309 followed by NEC at 310 and Norwich (A) at 312. NEC's Timothy Carlson was the individual medalist for the event with a round of even-par 71.
Leading the way for Castleton was
Brady Hathorn, who fired an 84 out of the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
Andrew Stefura and
Jake Barry each shot 85, followed by
Zach Trempner at 87 to round out the scoring.
Dominic Rodrigue posted a 90 as the Spartans' other competitor.
The Spartans return to action this weekend with the two-day Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury College at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday.
