Ward Scores Twice in Women's Lacrosse's Loss at Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's lacrosse team fell on the road on Wednesday evening, dropping a Little East Conference tilt 20-2 to Plymouth State.
 
Megan Ward netted both Spartan goals in the contest, pushing her season total to a team-leading 32 goals. Ward also had five ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls. Gianna Geraci had an assist and three caused turnovers as well. Tien Connor made 11 saves in goal for the Spartans.
 
Three Panthers had four goals apiece, with Julia Donovan, Tarryn O'Brien and Maddie Hunt piling up scores. O'Brien also had five assists for a nine-point evening. Megan Gaspa caused nine turnovers and Jenna Stowell had six draw controls.
 
The Panthers controlled the contest, outshooting VTSU Castleton 31-2 on goal and had a 34=13 edge in ground balls with a 16-7 edge in draw controls. The Spartans were able to hold Plymouth scoreless on two free-position attempts.
 
After Plymouth scored the first three goals of the contest, Ward netted her first of the contest unassisted for a 3-1 score in the first. The Panthers built their lead to 6-1 after one and to 12-1 at halftime.
 
Trailing 16-1 entering the final quarter, Ward scored the first of the frame less than a minute in off a feed from Geraci to stop the Spartans' drought. Plymouth added four more down the stretch for a 20-2 final.
 
VTSU Castleton wraps up the regular season on Saturday at Southern Maine. Opening draw is slated for noon in Gorham.
