DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball fell to UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon in doubleheader action.

GAME 1: UMass Dartmouth 3, VTSU Castleton 2

The Corsairs opened the game with a triple from Brett Baker. Baker advanced to home on an RBI single to give the Corsairs a 1-0 lead at the top of the first inning. Mikey Raby Jr. led off for the Spartans and made it to first base on an error by the Corsairs. Hunter Perkins tallied a single to advance Raby to second base. Raby reached third after tagging up on a flyout. With runners on the corners, Perkins sprinted to second and stole the base, which allowed Raby Jr. to make it home and tie up the score at one.

Sam Crawford kept the game afloat for Castleton, seeing 7.2 innings with eight strikeouts, three walks, nine hits, and two runs on a career-high 117 pitches. Adam Winchell entered for Crawford in the eighth inning with two outs remaining.

Baker made it around the bases after he was walked, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and made it home on a throwing error to grab the winning run and secure the victory for UMass Dartmouth.

Game 2 was highlighted by UMass Dartmouth's ace Adam Maher, who tossed 11 strikeouts, zero walks, four hits, and two runs. UMass Dartmouth began the game with five hits and three runs in the second inning to open the scoring.
