MAHWAH, N.J. – Vermont State University Castleton baseball fell to Ramapo College Wednesday afternoon, 16-6.
VTSU Castleton (2-15) were dropped by Ramapo (10-7) 16-6 on Wednesday. Highlighting the day was
Tyler McLain (3-5) with three hits, one run and one RBI.
Hunter Perkins (1-5) collected his 100th career hit and
Jared Cafasso (1-5) had two RBIs in the Spartans defeat.
Castleton loaded the bases up early in the first inning.
Brandon Ramirez was hit in by a pitch, allowing for the Spartans to move forward a base and bring home the first scorer of the contest. At the next at bat,
Mikey Raby Jr. connected with a single through the right side to advance the runners and give Castleton a 2-0 lead after one.
Ramapo didn't let Castleton's lead last for long, as they brought in four runners after their first inning. Cafasso responded with a single to left field, which brought in two runners to tie the game up at four.
The Roadrunners would go up by two, which put Castleton in the spot of trying to comeback once again. McLain smashed a ball to centerfield, bringing in Perkins to trail only by one in the sixth inning. However, Ramapo found the hot hand late in the game, collecting seven runs on four hits to close out the game at 16-6 in Mahwah.
The Spartans are back in action Saturday, March 30 against UMass Boston for doubleheader action, with the first game kicking off at noon.
