Game 1: Eastern Connecticut State 4, VTSU Castleton 3 (10 Innings)
Crawford got the start in game one and was solid for the Spartans. He saw 9.0 innings where he faced 32 batters, had five strikeouts, zero walks and six hits. Crawford's game on the mound allowed for Castleton to stay on the heels of the Warriors and continued to give them a chance with each at bat they had.
Clews opened up the scoring with a groundout towards the shortstop, allowing for the Ramirez to reach home and give Castleton an early 1-0 lead. The Warriors would respond with a 2-run homer to take the lead from Castleton at 2-1.
The middle innings went quiet, as Crawford kept the Warriors in check and didn't allow for them to expand on their lead. It wouldn't be until the seventh inning, where Clews brought in his second RBI of the game with single to right field and allowed for Ramirez to once again reach home. After a wild pitch was tossed by the Warriors, the Spartans went on to take a 3-2 lead in the eighth inning.
The Warriors were able to get one back in the eighth to tie up the game at three apiece. The game would be extended into extra innings, where
Adam Winchell would come in for Crawford. The Warriors were able to load up the bases, which led to Tiernan Lynch to hit a sacrifice out and allow for the winning run to cross the plate and give the Warriors the victory in game 1.
Game 2: Eastern Connecticut State 12, VTSU Castleton 3
The Warriors let the bats fly in game two with four home runs within the first three innings to give them a 7-0 lead. Trey Lavigne would get Castleton their first run of the game off a wild pitch in the fifth, and then McLain followed up with a fly out to allow for
Kannon Dush to reach home to put the game at 7-2. Later in the seventh, McLain recreated his first RBI with another fly out, and allowed for Dush to cross the plate once again to put the score at 8-3.
The Warriors went on to finalize their lead by securing four more runs in the seventh and take game two, 12-3 and sweep the Spartans.
The Spartans are back in action Wednesday, March 27 against Ramapo College at 3:30 p.m.
