NORTHBORO, Mass. – Vermont State University Castleton baseball blast by Anna Maria with four home runs to pick up the win 13-7.

VTSU Castleton (2-12) defeated Anna Maria (6-8) Wednesday afternoon, 13-7. Highlighting the match was Brandon Ramirez (3-6), who had a career day with four RBIs, a double, a triple and a home run in the victory. Jackson Cardozo (3-5) collected two RBIs, a double and a home run and Aubrey Ramey claimed the victory on the mound.

Anna Maria started the game off with two early runs in the first inning. Castleton later responded with a solo home run by Hunter Perkins (1-4), which kicked off a high scoring third inning by the two sides. With two men on base, Ramirez smashed a ball deep to the outfield to bring the runners home on a triple. Jared Cafasso (3-6) would bring him home after a single to right field, giving Castleton a 4-2 lead. The Amcats collected four runs of their own to end the third inning and go up by two.

The Spartans carried their momentum into the next at bats, with Tyler McLain (2-6) hitting a single to reach base and Jackson Cardozo crushing a ball over the wall to send him home and tie the game up at six. Feeling the energy in the air, Kannon Dush (3-6) smashed a two-run homer of his own to take lead back from the Amcats. The scoring streak continued as it made its way to the fifth inning, with Ramirez and Cafasso once again making the plays to advance all the runners and bring in two more RBIs for the Spartans to give them a 11-6 lead.

Ramirez continued his hot hitting day, with a solo home run in the seventh inning to extend Castleton's lead to 12. Castleton's pitching held their ground in the matchup, after a bumpy start in the beginning. Six pitchers took the mound, combining for six strikeouts and six walks.
