PINEVILLE, La. – Vermont State University Castleton baseball fell to Louisiana Christian University Wednesday evening, 22-12.
VTSU Castleton (0-6) fell to LCU (12-3) 22-12 in Pineville, La. Wednesday night.
Tyler McLain (1-5) had four RBI's,
Hunter Perkins and
Kannon Dush combined for six runs and
Alex Bingham (2-5) collected multiple hits in the match up.
Wednesday night's contest became a shootout fast. The Wildcats opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning. LCU came out strong on the offense, but pitching became a concern for the Wildcats. Castleton would begin to load up the bases and begin their run in the second inning.
Trey LaVigne popped a sacrifice fly to right to bring in Danny Pallotto for the first score for Castleton. The Wildcats walked in the next two runners for Castleton to tie up the game at three each. With bases loaded, McLain drove the ball deep to left field for a double and allowed for three Spartans to reach home plate to give Castleton a 6-3 lead.
LCU answered with runs of their own. With three doubles, LCU took back the lead with three doubles and four runs to bring the score to 7-6. McLain continued to make noise on bat, bringing in two more runners to tie the game up at 9-9 halfway through the contest.
Castleton found some more runs in the seventh inning, with
Dylan Hedler reaching home plate to score on a Wildcat error.
Alex Bingham connected on a double to right field to bring in Dush, and
Jack Boyle would be walked with bases loaded to allow Perkins to score.
The Wildcats turned their game up a notch with 13 runs in the final two innings of plays to finish with 14 hits and taking the win 22-12 through seven innings.
VTSU Castleton returns to action Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) against Texas Lutheran University.
