MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's hockey team was defeated by No. 3 Middlebury College Wednesday afternoon, 5-0.
Five different Panthers scored as Middlebury improved to 5-0-0 on the year, while the Spartans dropped to 3-4-1.
Despite the score,
Victoria Bakopanos was sensational in net for Castleton. The Kirkland, Quebec native stopped a career-high 56 saves with a .918 save percentage. Bakopanos' 56 saves put her second in program history for most saves in a single game and the most since 2015.
Sabrina Kim started the Panthers with a goal halfway through the opening period. She had a team-high of 14 shots on goal and finished with two points and a +3 for Middlebury. The Panthers found another first-period goal to set the score at 2-0.
Megan Ward provided a team-high four blocks in Wednesday's contest, while
Ellie Schliebener put three shots on target for the Spartans.
Middlebury began the second period with a powerplay goal to extend their lead to three. The Panthers found two more goals to seal the game at 5-0.
VTSU Castleton returns to action Tuesday, December 3 at 6 p.m. against Williams College on the road.
