Women's Hockey Pick Up Win Over Plymouth St.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Vermont State University Castleton women's hockey defeated Plymouth St. 3-1, Friday evening,

VTSU Castleton took on New England Hockey Conference opponent Plymouth St Friday evening at Hanaway Rink. Castleton entered the game searching for their first win in 2024. The Spartans came out flying in to begin the game. In just a couple minutes, Meg Aiken and Eva Hofmeister connected with first year Taylor Adams, who buried her team-leading eighth goal to give the Spartans an early lead. After Adams' early goal, the two teams kept the play level among one another and ended the first with Castleton up one.

The Spartans came back onto the fresh sheet of ice and were ready to keep the puck moving and they did exactly that. Alternate captain Julia Carpenter took the puck for herself and found the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Just moments after Carpenter's goal, Aiken rode the Spartans momentum and buried a goal of her own to extend Castleton's led to three.

The Panthers needed an answer but would be denied by the stellar performance of Kara Boassaly. Boassaly held her ground and kept Plymouth scoreless through most of the game. She made 27 saves in just the second alone and came out of tonight's game with a 40 save performance and her second win this season. Boassaly's 40 saves tonight is a new career high, as the Spartans jump back into the win column with their first victory in the new year.

The two teams will see each other again tomorrow at Spartan Arena for the Spartans "Pink the Rink" game at 3 p.m.
