CASTLETON, Vt. – Posting a quartet of donuts, the Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team routed VTSU Johnson, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans (2-7) kicked off the contest in winning fashion as the tandem pair of Devon Kibbey/Natsuhi Onishi locked up the first point with an 8-1 match at the third slot while Ginny Trevisan/Camille Jackson logged an 8-2 second-flight victory.
Singles action opened with a bang as Trevisan notched a double bagel at flight No. 3 and Jackson rolled at the fourth spot, 6-0, 6-1. Kibbey and Onishi overpowered their foes at the latter two flights, allowing the Badgers (2-7) to claim just two games in each matchup to give VTSU Castleton the clinch. After trading sets with Johnson's Matea Smith at the top flight, Stella Forte toughed out a 10-8 super tiebreak to finalize the dual at 7-2.
The Spartans are back in Little East Conference action on Saturday, September 30 at Southern Maine. First serve against the Huskies is at noon.
