SPRINGFIELD, MASS – Vermont State University Castleton field hockey fell to Western New England Tuesday night, 2-0.
The Spartans drop their first game since losing to Middlebury in early September.
Zoe Martin had four saves,
Emily Harris provided three shots and
Emily Downing had one shot on goal.
The game was an even battle throughout most of the match. Western New England's Sarah Johnston capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity to get the Bears on the board first. Much of the match was a defensive battle between the two sides.
Late in the fourth quarter, Johnson would go on to find an open teammate to bring the score to 2-0. The Spartans pushed forward and earned a penalty corner with just minutes left in the game. Castleton found the back of the cage, but the goal was waved off by the referee. The Bears drained the remainder of the clock and solidify the win.
The Spartans will be back in action Wednesday, October 4 at 6 p.m. at Endicott.
