CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team was downed in a non-conference match against Farmingdale State, 8-1, Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans (1-6) kept tandem action close with 8-5 scores in the top two doubles flights occupied by Stella Forte/Madelyn Nonni and Ginny Trevisan/Camille Jackson. The Rams' (4-2) pair of Heather McGullam/Rebecca Ness completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Olivia Rutkowski/Devon Kibbey at the third slot.
Forte collected an emphatic triumph at No. 1 singles, posting a 6-1 victory then taking the match when Lien Collings retired in the second set. Trevisan fought to a third set for the second time in two days, but surrendered a 14-12 super-tiebreak decision to MacKenzie Gisler. At the fourth spot, FSC's Gabriella Loria halted Jackson's singles win streak in 6-1, 6-4 fashion. Ram triumphs at the second, fifth, and sixth flights finalized the dual at 8-1.
The Spartans host two matches on home court next week, beginning with a Little East Conference matchup with UMass Boston on Tuesday, September 26. First serve is at 4 p.m.
