CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team scored its first victory of the season in shutout fashion over VTSU Lyndon, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans (1-4) cruised in doubles play as Stella Forte/Madelyn Nonni snagged an 8-3 top-flight win and Ginny Trevisan/Olivia Rutkowski put together an 8-1 rout at the second slot. Devon Kibbey and Natsuhi Onishi had a 3-0 lead before the Hornets (0-6) retired to concede the point.

Onishi also added her first career singles win with Abigail Stacy's retirement at flight No. 6. Forte and Trevisan double-bageled their matchups at the first and third slots, respectively. Rutkowski put away Kiara Mack at the fourth flight in 6-0, 6-2 fashion as fifth-slotted Kibbey logged a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Gray Hoselton. Tallying the ninth point of the day, Nonni outlasted Maachah Krull with a pair of 6-3 sets to complete the clean sweep.

The Spartans return to battle on Saturday, September 23 with a road match at WestConn. First serve against the Wolves is at 1 p.m.
