RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team collected its second Little East Conference victory over Salem State, 6-3, at the Vermont Sport & Fitness Club Saturday afternoon.
A doubles sweep led by top-slotted Stella Forte/Madelyn Nonni's 8-2 set gave the Spartans (4-8, 2-5 LEC) a comfortable three-point cushion. Camille Jackson/Devon Kibbey picked up an 8-4 triumph at the second tandem flight as Natsuhi Onishi/Olivia Rutkowski edged out an 8-5 third-flight win.
Salem State (0-9, 0-5 LEC) nabbed three points in singles play, winning matchups at the second, fifth, and sixth spots. The Spartans received a crucial flight No. 3 win from Jackson as the senior topped Kenzie McLaren, 6-2, 6-1. Forte clinched the dual with a 6-1, 6-3 vanquishing of Cassie Liu while Onishi took down Miah Reyes, 6-4, 6-1, for her fourth consecutive victory in singles action to conclude the match.
With their home slate completed, the Spartans head to Hudson Valley Community College on Tuesday, October 10. First serve is at 4 p.m.
