TROY, N.Y. — The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team took down Hudson Valley Community College, 6-3, Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans (4-8) locked up an early point as Natsuhi Onishi/Olivia Rutkowski held their third-slot matchup scoreless, 8-0. In the top two flights, however, HVCC (0-0) claimed wins via narrow margins to enter singles play with a 2-1 edge.
Onishi dispatched Zara Cole with a double bagel at the fourth spot as Rutkowski also picked up her second triumph of the day at the sixth flight, 6-1, 6-0. A top-flight win for the Vikings was met with Spartan points from Madelyn Nonni, Camille Jackson, and Devon Kibbey to close proceedings.
VTSU Castleton finishes its regular-season schedule on Saturday, October 14 at Little East Conference foe Bridgewater State. First serve is at 2 p.m.
