CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis hosted Plattsburgh State Wednesday afternoon, claiming a win on both doubles and singles courts before falling 7-2 to the Cardinals.
The afternoon's doubles matches were hotly contested, as Plattsburgh (2-2, 0-1 SUNYAC) claimed Court #2 with an 8-2 win before
Regina Marchese and
Ginny Trevisan leveled the score with an 8-4 win on first doubles — their first as a pair.
The third match of the day between
Megan Brier and
Stella Forte and their Cardinals counterparts came down to the wire, with Plattsburgh taking the 8-6 win to go up 2-1 after the first few matches.
Castleton (1-3, 0-1 LEC) opened singles play with losses on first, second, and third courts, but each remaining contest was tight before the winner was ultimately decided. On Court #4, Forte forced a seventh game in the opening set before falling 7-5 and 6-0 in the ensuing set. On sixth singles,
Camille Jackson took the first set 6-3, but was unable to hold onto her lead, dropping the ensuing two sets 6-1 and 6-0 after a hard-fought battle.
The Spartans' lone singles win of the day came from Trevisan, who dropped her first set 4-6 before roaring back to win Set 2 6-3 and claim the victory with a 10-6 third set win, resulting in the overall 7-2 loss for the team.
Castleton will look to get back in the win column Monday, September 19 when they host Hudson Valley Community College. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
