GORHAM, Me. – The Castleton women's tennis team traveled for a match against Southern Maine Saturday afternoon, dominating from start to finish en route to the program's first sweep over a conference opponent since joining the LEC in 2018.
The Spartans (3-7, 1-5 LEC) kicked things off with a strong showing in doubles play, where first-time pairing of
Regina Marchese and
Madelyn Nonni earned an 8-2 win on first doubles, before an 8-1 win on Court #2 by
Megan Brier and
Stella Forte — followed by a forfeit on third doubles — completed the sweep for Castleton.
Singles play began with the Spartans up 5-0 after forfeits on fourth and sixth singles before Castleton's domination continued.
Camille Jackson tallied her second win of the season on Court #5 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, Marchese claimed a 6-4, 6-0 win on first singles, and Forte earned her second straight-set win of the season on third singles to put Castleton ahead 8-0.
With the sweep at stake, Brier worked from behind after dropping her first set 6-3, completing the comeback and the sweep with a three-set victory, clinching the historic win for the Spartans.
Castleton will look to carry this momentum into their next match Tuesday, October 11 when they host Plymouth State, with first serve set for 4 p.m.
