CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team celebrated their seniors with a hard-fought match against Plymouth State Tuesday afternoon, claiming wins on both doubles and singles courts before ultimately falling 6-3 to the Panthers.
 
The Spartans (3-8, 1-6 LEC) fell behind 2-0 after the afternoon's first two doubles matches of the day, but a gritty 8-6 win by Madelyn Nonni and Camille Jackson put Castleton down just one entering singles play.
 
Finding themselves trailing after a loss on third singles, senior Makayla Boisvert played her best tennis all season, handling Plymouth's (6-5, 4-3 LEC) Sarah Asciutto 6-2, 6-0 for her third win of the season. Down just one win for the second time, Regina Marchese battled on first singles, forcing an extra game in the second set before dropping the 6-3, 7-6 decision to put the Panthers up 4-2.
 
Jackson continued her strong day on sixth singles, winning 6-0, 6-1 — her third victory of the season — to bring the Spartans back within one, but losses on fourth and fifth singles ended the match 6-3 in favor of Plymouth State.
 
Next up for Castleton is their regular season finale against Salem State Saturday, October 15, with first serve set for 1 p.m.
