BOSTON, Mass. – The Castleton women's tennis team traveled for a matchup with UMass Boston Thursday afternoon, falling 9-0 to the Beacons on the road.
After dropping 8-0 and 8-2 decisions on first and second doubles, the Spartans' (2-7, 0-5 LEC)
Madelyn Nonni and
Camille Jackson battled on Court #3, ultimately losing 8-3 to fall behind 3-0 after the opening round of matches.
Singles play brought more of the same against a formidable UMass Boston (6-1, 5-0 LEC) team, with
Regina Marchese and
Makayla Boisvert each stealing a game before falling 6-1, 6-0 on first and second singles.
Megan Brier fell in straight sets on Court #3, followed by 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-0 losses by
Stella Forte and Nonni, putting the Beacons up 8-0.
The afternoon's final match was its closest, with Jackson nearly forcing a seventh game in both sets, coming up just shy in a 6-4, 6-4 loss to complete the sweep for UMass Boston.
Castleton will look to bounce back and earn their first conference win of the season against Southern Maine Saturday, October 8, with opening serve set for 1 p.m.
