Women’s Soccer Secures Third Straight Shutout in 3-0 Win Over SUNY Potsdam

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's soccer team concluded their non-conference schedule with a matchup against SUNY Potsdam Tuesday afternoon, getting scores from a trio of players en route to the team's third straight shutout victory.

Jamie Ledoux, Brytney Moore, and Alexis Billings all found the back of the net in the contest, while Alex Benfatti and Emma Ezzo combined for the shutout in net, making two and four saves respectively.

The Spartans (6-9-1, 3-2-1 LEC) controlled the game from kickoff, getting great looks on net from Lauren Fotter and Becky Hannwacker before Ledoux broke the tie with her first career goal in the 30th minute. A Castleton corner kick was sent to the top of the box from Zoey Teal toward a waiting Meczywor, who headed it toward the six-yard box. Finding herself in perfect position, Ledoux redirected the header, sending it past the Bears' goalie and in for the score.

SUNY Potsdam (7-8-1, 3-4-1 SUNYAC) responded well with two shots on net over the final 15, but Benfatti denied both with ease to send Castleton into the break up 1-0.

Eager to increase their lead, the Spartans took just three minutes to double their goal tally on Moore's third of the season. An attempted clearance by the Bears was sent immediately back into the box by Fotter, finding its way to Megan Ezzo — who tallied two assists on the day — before the sophomore centered the ball to set up Moore for an easy finish.

Castleton's final score of the day would come just under 10 minutes later when Ezzo sent a beautiful through ball to a cutting Billings, who took two touches before slotting to ball into the bottom corner. The goal was Billings' team-high fifth on the year.

Potsdam fought back over the contest's final 30 minutes, creating several good looks including two shots that ricocheted off the crossbar, but Ezzo remained perfect in a four-save performance that sealed the Spartans' 3-0 win at home.

Next up for Castleton is a conference matchup with UMass Dartmouth Saturday, October 22. Kickoff for the Spartans' regular season road finale is 12 p.m.
