LATHAM, N.Y. - The Castleton women's tennis team earned its second victory of the season at Russell Sage College Sunday afternoon thanks to clutch singles performances.
The Spartans (2-1) fell in straight sets on the top two singles courts, but swept the remainder to claim a 5-4 victory over the Gators (0-1). This came after Castleton won two of three doubles matches to build an early lead.
Megan Brier and
Grace Sharkey won at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, while
Makayla Boisvert and
Mia Manheimer won 8-0 on the third court. Both doubles tandems improved to 2-0 on the season.
Sharkey, Boisvert, and Manheimer would deliver the clinching singles victories. Manheimer and Boisvert won in straight sets, while Sharkey used a dominant third set to win at No. 4. She improved to 2-0 on the year in singles competition.
The Spartans return to action Wednesday, September 8 when they host NVU-Johnson at 4 p.m.
