SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Castleton women's soccer team dropped a non-conference affair at Springfield College by a score of 3-0 Wednesday evening.
Despite allowing a pair of early goals,
Alex Benfatti kept the Spartans (4-3-1, 2-0-0 LEC) within striking distance through the majority of the contest. She posted a career-high 14 saves, besting her previous mark of 13. The junior also reached the century mark in career saves.
Springfield (4-3-0) posted its first goal in the 10th minute before netting another in 16th minute. The Spartans put two shots on goal to the Pride's seven in the opening half.
In the second half, Benfatti would face a flurry of Springfield shots, making nine saves and allowing just one goal. The final Pride tally came in the 55th minute.
Castleton totaled three shots on goal in the contest. They came from
Brytney Moore,
Maddie Lindgren, and
Devyn Beliveau-Gale.
The Spartans are back in action Saturday, October 2, traveling to WestConn for a Little East Conference match. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
