CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Rhode Island College Saturday afternoon at Dave Wolk Stadium.
The Spartans (2-6-0, 1-1-0 LEC) held off the powerful Anchormen offense for the majority of the first half. Goalkeeper
Andres Soto-Burgos made a trio of saves before RIC (5-2-0, 2-0-0 LEC) notched its first tally of the afternoon. The goal came in the 36th minute via penalty kick. The visitors doubled the lead in the 38th minute. Castleton attempted a pair of shots, but weren't able to get one on target in the opening half.
The deficit grew to 3-0 in the 61st minute and ballooned to 4-0 in the 80th minute. RIC attempted 26 shots on the afternoon, 10 of which were directed at Spartan goalkeepers.
Andres Soto-Burgos started and made six saves in just over 71 minutes.
Jonathan Maul entered and assumed goalkeeping duties for the remainder.
RIC goalkeeper Charlie Tashjian entered the contest with three consecutive shutouts. While he didn't play the entirely, he made a pair of saves in 83 minutes. Both Castleton shots came from
Noah Swainbank.
The Spartans return to action Wednesday evening, traveling to Eastern Nazarene College. They'll be back at Dave Wolk Stadium Saturday, October 2 for a tilt with WestConn.
