CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton women's soccer team earned a dominant 6-1 victory over Morrisville State Saturday afternoon at Dave Wolk Stadium.
The Spartan offense erupted to the tune of six first-half goals. The team last scored six goals in a single contest two years ago today.Â
The Mustangs (2-1-0) struck first in the eighth minute, but Castleton (2-0-1) responded quickly. Brytney Moore scored her first of the half in the 10th minute to set the stage for what would be an offensive explosion. It marked the first goal allowed by Morrisville this season. A rocket off the foot of Rylee Nichols gave the hosts their first lead in the 12th minute.Â
Moore picked her second goal of the afternoon in the 15th minute. It marked the first multi-goal game of the sophomore's career. Jamie Barrett tacked on another in the 21st minute to earn her first of the season. Back-to-back goals by Kaidin Gauthier would have the Spartans leading 6-1 at the break. Earning her first career tallies, Gauthier's goals came just three minutes apart.Â
Neither side found the back of the net in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Alex Hutchins entered in the 65th minute and registered a save, relieving starter Alex Benfatti, who notched two saves. Mustang goalkeeper Meaghan Miller made eight saves as the Spartans totaled 14 on-target shots.Â
The Spartans return to action Sunday, September 12 when they host Williams for a 12 p.m. kick-off.Â
