DANBURY, Conn. – The Castleton University women's tennis team dropped a Little East Conference (LEC) contest, falling 5-4 Friday afternoon to Western Connecticut State at Westside Courts.
The Spartans (1-5, 1-5 LEC) collected one win during doubles play as the Colonels (4-4, 4-4 LEC) dropped third doubles due to a forfeit.
Regina Marchese and
Mia Manheimer fell 8-3 at first doubles, while
Grace Sharkey and
Camille Jackson fell 8-4 in a close contest at second doubles.
The Spartans picked up three more wins during singles play due to a forfeit to round out the scoring. Marchese and Sharkey both dropped straight-set decisions at first and third singles, while
Aliza Bogner won the first set before dropping two straight and falling 6-7 (7-2), 6-4, 6-1 to Lesley Cornel at second singles.
Jackson was the lone winner as she came out victorious, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win over Chelsea Von Elm at fourth singles.
Castleton returns to action Saturday, May 1, as it wraps up the 2020-21 regular season at home against Plymouth State. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at the Castleton Tennis Courts.
