Women's Lacrosse Downed by St. Lawrence in Road Action

CANTON, N.Y. – The Castleton University women's lacrosse team fell to 1-1 on the season, dropping a road contest to St. Lawrence by a final score of 22-1 at Hall-Leet Stadium.

St. Lawrence controlled play from the opening draw, outshooting Castleton 47-2 and winning draw controls, 18-6. The Saints were a perfect 5-for-5 clearing the ball, while Castleton went 3-for-9 on clears. SLU also held an 11-5 edge in ground balls while both teams scored once from free-position shots.

Kimberly McCarthy scored Castleton's lone goal and had both of the Spartan shots, putting home a free-position shot with less than nine minutes to play in the second half to get Castleton on the board. Lacey Greenamyre had all six of Castleton's draw controls. Raven Payne earned the start in goal and made 15 saves in 36-plus minutes of action before giving way to Emi Harlow and Carly Curtis, who split time over the final 23-plus minutes.

Charlotte Powell scored five times and added two assists for the Saints to lead all players with seven points, while Kylie Murphy and Laura Wells had five points each on one goal and four assists. Jaime Allan scored four times for St. Lawrence, while Isabel Silvia added three goals and an assist. Courtney Lynn earned the win in net, stopping the only shot she faced over 42 minutes before turning the game over to Raelynn Bovenzi.

Castleton returns to action at Utica on Monday at 7 p.m.
