WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - The Castleton men's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision against a tough Eastern Connecticut group Saturday afternoon, with Santiago Moraes' first-career goal serving as the Spartans only score of the game.
The Warriors (7-5, 3-1 LEC) got themselves on the board in the ninth minute after Ryan Sirois one-timed a cross from Sean Cafferty to give his team the early lead. Eastern Connecticut would tack on two more goals before halftime to make it 3-0 entering the break.
The Warriors lead would balloon to five nine minutes into the second half, ending Andres Soto-Burgos' day in net for the Spartans after making nine saves in just 55 minutes of play, the least he has played in a match thus far. Eastern's sixth and final goal would come 15 minutes later from Ryan Jamieson.
The lone bright spot for Castleton (3-9, 1-3 LEC) came in the 79th minute, as the freshmen duo of Moraes and Brecken Shea were able to connect for the Spartans only goal of the day.
The Spartans will look to get back in the win column Wednesday, Oct. 13 with a matchup against Keene State. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
