CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Norwich Wednesday night in non-conference action at Glenbrook Gym.
The Spartans (4-10) fell to Norwich (6-5) for the second time this season, as the Cadets had 31 kills to Castleton's 16 and 30 assists to Castleton's 15. Norwich also held a 49-36 lead in digs, 6-5 edge in blocks and a 9-0 edge in service aces. Norwich completed the sweep with set scores of 25-5, 25-12 and 25-16.
Castleton was led by eight kills and three total blocks by
Hailey Martinovich as the rookie accounted for nearly half of the Spartans' offense on the night.
Lizzie Goodrich had four kills,
Jen Halliday had 12 digs and
Bre MacDuff had 10 assists. Goodrich and
Jessica Trudeau also had two block assists each.
Norwich was powered by nine kills from Addison Hall and eight apiece by Ana Lopez and Maggie McNeil. McNeil added five aces two block assists to her line, while Hall had four block assists on the night. Laura Farnum had 15 digs in the match, while Sarah Farnum led the Cadets with 26 assists.
Castleton returns to action Saturday for a tri-match at home against Eastern Connecticut State and SUNY-Delhi. Matches are at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. for the round-robin series of games.
