CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 defeat to UMass Boston Wednesday afternoon at Castleton Tennis Courts. The match was highlighted by strong performances on the lowest courts.
Matilda Gutke earned her first victory of the season at No. 6 doubles. She cruised to a sweep, winning sets 6-1 and 6-0.
Megan Brier and
Mia Manheimer partnered in doubles for the first time this season and earned an 8-7 win on the third court thanks to a dominant tiebreaker performance. Maheimer went on to battle at No. 5 singles, eventually falling 8-6.
Makayla Boisvert lost in two sets, but picked up games in both.
The Spartans return home Saturday, October 9 for a Little East Conference match with Southern Maine. Doubles action is set to begin at 1 p.m.
