CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton Universty women's volleyball team dropped a three-set match to Plattsburgh State at Glenbrook Gym Wednesday night, falling 25-23, 25-21, 25-12 to the Cardinals in a non-conference matchup.
 
The Spartans fall to 5-17 on the season, while Plattsburgh State picked up its 10th win of the year in the contest to move to 10-15. Plattsburgh held a 41-27 edge in kills as a team, as well as an 8-4 edge in aces, 8-0 edge in blocks, 36-27 edge in assists and 58-54 edge in digs. The Cardinals had a .224 hitting percentage for the match, while Castleton hit at a .063 rate.
 
Hailey Martinovich logged her seventh double-double of the season, amassing 10 kills and 14 digs for the Spartans. She also had an ace and hit .229 on the night for Castleton. Lizzie Goodrich added seven kills while hitting .167, and Mackenzie Bender had four kills for the Spartans. Mackenzie Wade led the team with 19 digs, while Bre MacDuff added eight digs and 22 assists. MacDuff now sits six assists shy of tying the Castleton single-season record.
 
Plattsburgh State was led by Payton Zophy's double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs in addition to three aces, while Meghan O'Brien and Alicia Fisher had eight kills apiece. Fisher was also part of for block assists. Olga Muka and Emma Rivers spread the ball around on offense, compiling 17 and 16 assists, respectively. Maddy Zophy had 20 digs for the Cardinals, while Muka led all players with four aces.
 
Castleton hits the road Friday for another non-conference match at Fisher College, before closing the season Saturday at UMass. Boston. Game time against Fisher is set for 7 p.m.
