Women's Soccer Rolls to 5-0 Senior Day Victory

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton women's soccer team earned a dominant 5-0 win over UMass Dartmouth Sunday afternoon at Dave Wolk Stadium after honoring its seven-member senior class. Rylee Nichols netted two goals, while Rylee Pepin scored the first of her career.

The Spartans (7-4-4, 4-1-2 LEC) opened the scoring in the sixth minute as Nichols tallied her first. She collected a long centering pass from fellow fifth-year senior Jamie Barrett before tapping it home from five yards out.

Pepin would find the back of the net for her first collegiate goal in the 45th minute, just seconds before halftime. The freshman received a helper from Chase Livesey, who headed the ball back for Pepin to fire a 25-yard rocket.

Nichols struck again in the 69th minute via penalty kick. She put a well-placed shot just inside the right post, handing the Corsairs (1-13-1, 0-7-0 LEC) a 3-0 deficit

It marked Nichols ninth of the season, which leads the team and ranks fourth in the Little East Conference. She's posted three multi-goal games this season.

Brytney Moore netted her fourth of the season in the 76th minute, dodging a Corsair defender and creating a high-percentage opportunity from 10 yards out. Moore's shot snuck in the bottom right corner of the frame.

Chase Livesey rounded out the scoring in the 82nd minute. Emily Bouvier sent a shot that hit the right post before Livesey scored on the rebound. It marked Bouvier's first career point.

Two-time reigning LEC Goalkeeper of the Week Alex Benfatti notched her third consecutive shutout and fifth in the last six games. She was called upon to make just one save in the contest. Benfatti now has double-digit shutouts for her career.

Castleton returns to action Wednesday evening at Dave Wolk Stadium, taking on MCLA. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
