Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls 3-2 at UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Castleton men's soccer team dropped a closely-contested 3-2 decision at UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon. Adolphe Alfani and Jacob Godfrey both found the back of the net for the Spartans.

The Corsairs (7-5-2, 3-3-1 LEC) held a 2-0 lead before Castleton (4-11-0, 2-5-0 LEC) was able to tally its first goal. The hosts first struck in the 34th minute to lead 1-0 at halftime. They'd open the second half with a goal in the 53rd minute.

Adolphe Alfani cut the lead to 2-1 in the 67th minute off a feed from Toby Ritzkowski. The pair caught Corsair goalkeeper Jacob Castro out of position before Alfani tapped it home from five yards out, beating a lone defender, for his seventh of the year. The Colchester, Vt. native leads the team in goals and is tied for fourth in the Little East Conference.

UMass Dartmouth reclaimed its two-goal lead in the 79th minute.

Jacob Godfrey netted his second of the season in the 80th minute to bring the Spartans within a goal once again with just over 10 minutes remaining. Ben Stewart fired a free kick from 20 yards out before Godfrey one-timed a lose ball past Castro.

Castleton saw two corner kick opportunities in the final 10 minutes, but weren't able to convert. A shot by Ben Stewart in the 84th minute hit the crossbar, nearly tying the game.

Andres Soto-Burgos totaled five saves in the contest, while Castro recorded four. Total shots were 21-18 in favor of the Spartans.

The team return to action Tuesday evening, traveling to Springfield College for a non-conference matchup, which is set for 7 p.m.
