CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's volleyball team dropped a tight three-set match to Keene State Wednesday night at Glenbrook Gym, falling to the Owls 3-0 in Little East Conference action.
The Spartans fall to 4-13 on the season and 0-5 in LEC play, while Keene State improves to 12-8 overall and 3-2 in LEC action. The Owls won in straight sets—25-19, 25-20, 25-16—to seal the victory, holding a 42-33 edge in kills, 60-48 edge in digs and 39-31 edge in assists. Castleton had seven aces to Keene's five in the contest.
Hailey Martinovich had a double-double in the loss, compiling 13 kills and 13 digs for the Spartans with an ace and a block assist as well.
Lizzie Goodrich totaled eight kills, while
Jessica Trudeau added seven kills and a team-best .238 hitting percentage.
Bre MacDuff tallied 27 assists and four service aces, while
Mackenzie Wade added 10 digs of her own.
Keene's offense was powered by 12 kills from the left arm of Cassidy Samuelson as well as 11 from Emilyann Ashford. Sydney Johnson chipped in with nine kills, and Elizabeth Johnson and Ali McLoughlin had five kills each. Three players for the Owls topped 10 digs, with Sarah Williams leading the way with 15. Kacie Blanchet had 14 digs and McLoughlin 10.
The Spartans are back in action Friday night at Plymouth State for an LEC matchup at 7 p.m. against the 18-0 Panthers.
