GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- After rain canceled the first game of the doubleheader, the Castleton University baseball team dropped an 18-11 nonconference decision Saturday afternoon to Stockton University at the Stockton Baseball Field.

The Ospreys (6-1) came out of the gates fast as the team tallied 14 runs before the Spartans (4-4) could get on the board. Starting pitcher Cameron Goulet had a rough outing as he lasted only two innings on the mound. The senior left-hander gave up 13 runs (11 earned) on 10 hits and walked two batters.

As the Ospreys tallied one more run in the bottom half of the fourth inning to make it a 15-1 game, the Spartans tallied four runs in the fifth. Jeremy Johnson began the inning with a home run over the left-field wall. Davis Mikell followed that up with a hard single to right field. After Daniel Petrie flew out and Evan Keegan walked, John Stewart III doubled to deep left-center field, plating one run. Borsari continued the inning as he recorded his second double of the game as Stewart and Keegan scored to cut the lead to 15-5.

The Spartans added two more runs the very next inning as the Ospreys tapped into their bullpen. Starting pitcher Phil DeMarco earned his first win of the season as he pitched five innings while giving up five runs on eight hits. Three more runs were plated for the Spartans in the eighth inning as the team cut the deficit to 16-11. Johnson, who continues to lead the team in batting average, began the top half of the inning with a leadoff infield single. Mikell sand Petrie singled right after and with the bases loaded and no outs, Keegan worked an RBI walk. The Spartans tallied two more runs on a Stewart RBI sacrifice fly and a Liam Foley RBI groundout.

The Ospreys solidified the win in the bottom half of the eighth inning as the team tallied two runs to stymie the Spartans' rally.
