Box Score BANGOR, Maine – The Spartans never trailed as they remained perfect in conference play with a 10-2 victory over Husson on Saturday afternoon.
Castleton outshot the Eagles 30-20 and picked up 41 ground balls to improve to 6-4 and 4-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. Husson, meanwhile, fell to 2-5 and 1-2 in conference play.
Senior Brianna MacKay continued her torrid scoring, with six goals and four ground balls, to give her 26 goals over her last four games. Brandi Whittemore added two goals, one assist, seven ground balls and two draw controls, while Chantel Wilkin dished off two assists.
Mattie Russell and Alissa Fallon scored once, while Cassidy Roderick had four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Amanda Deshaies added three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
MacKay gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead just 1:48 into the contest and Whittemore extended the lead to 2-0 with 20:10 left. She made it 3-0 four minutes later, before Husson got on the board to cut the deficit to 3-1. Mackay scored back-to-back goals late in the period and Grace Johnson added a goal with 1:12 left for the 6-1 advantage at the half.
Just 56 seconds into the second half, Whittemore fed MacKay for the seven-goal advantage. She added two more goals over the next ten minutes to stretch the lead to 9-1. Danielle Pickard pushed it to 10-1 with 17:27 remaining. Husson scored once in the final nine minutes for the eight-goal margin of victory.
Senior Meghan Els was impressive in net once again, as she made 15 saves while allowing just two goals in 60 minutes to secure the win. Kaitlin Dolloff took the loss as she allowed ten goals while making 13 saves.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they travel to play at Keene State at 4 pm.
