Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's soccer team made it three consecutive North Atlantic Conference wins on Saturday afternoon, taking down the University of Maine at Farmington at Spartan Stadium.
Castleton's win moved it to 4-6-3 overall and 3-1-1 in NAC play, while UMF suffered its first conference defeat of the season. The Beavers are now 3-1 in NAC action and 5-6 overall.
Shelby McLenithan had a game-high five points on one goal and three assists, while Makenzi Bellando netted a pair of goals for Castleton. Izzy Hutnak chipped in with one goal and two assists, and Jessica Binkowski made two saves en route to her fourth win of the season in goal.
For UMF, Kiana Thompson made eight saves in 71 minutes of action while Ashley Gleason and Hadlee Yescott had two shots each.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the 6th minute of the game, when McLenithan fielded a long lead pass from Hutnak and slotted a shot into the right side of the net to give her squad a 1-0 lead. The Spartans struck again in the 24th minute, when McLenithan assisted on Bellando's first goal of the day to make it a 2-0 contest going into halftime.
The Castleton offense came out of the break ready to play, notching two goals in the first seven minutes of the second stanza. Bellando took a pass from Hutnak in the box and buried it for a 3-0 lead just 13 seconds into the frame before Bri DiPhilippo made it a 4-0 game in the 52nd minute on an assist from McLenithan. The Spartans' last goal came from Hutnak, her team-leading sixth of the season, when she finished a shot inside the six-yard box on McLenithan's third assist of the day.
Castleton held a 21-7 advantage in shots, while outshooting the Beavers 14-2 on goal. The Spartans also had a 4-1 advantage in corner plays, and recorded 11 fouls to UMF's eight.
Castleton is back in action on Sunday at noon when it hosts NAC-foe Thomas at Spartan Stadium.
