CANTON, N.Y. – An early goal made the difference on Sunday afternoon, as the Castleton men's soccer team fell 1-0 to SUNY Canton in a non-conference matchup.

Castleton falls to 4-8-2 on the season with the loss, while Canton improves to 5-9-1 overall.

The only score of the game came in just the fourth minute, when Canton's Marc Ramirez sent a ball over the top into the box. Aaron Parker kicked the ball away with a sliding effort, but Parker's clearance went directly to the foot of Edward Malinoski, Jr., who finished from 15 yards out into the right side of the net.

The best chance of the game for Castleton came in the 90th minute, when a shot by Josh Mathews seemed destined for the net, but Canton goalie Mouhammed Thiam made a diving save, deflecting the ball off the crossbar to seal the victory for the Kangaroos.

Castleton had a majority of the chances for most of the game, putting four shots on goal to Canton's two following the opening score. Canton held a 10-9 shot edge overall in the contest, while Castleton had a 5-4 advantage in corner opportunities.

Castleton continues a four-game road stretch on Tuesday when it travels to Johnson St. for a non-conference matchup.
