Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – Williams used some hot shooting to jump out to a 16-3 lead and didn't let the lead fall into single digits again on the way to an 81-55 victory over Castleton in Glenbrook Gym on Sunday afternoon.
The Ephs finished the game shooting 54.2 percent overall and an impressive 13-for-25 from downtown while turning the ball over just ten times to improve to 8-3 on the year. Castleton also connected on 13 triples, from 32 attempts, but made just 37.0 percent of its shots overall and was outrebounded 43-22 to drop to 4-7 overall.
Senior Rob Coloutti connected on six shots from downtown to finish with 20 points, four rebounds and two steals while classmate Casey McGraw made four threes for 14 points and two rebounds. Freshman Edmund Fitzgerald filled the box score with five points, five blocks, four rebounds and three steals as Pavin Parrish added four points and seven assists.
For Williams, Cole Teal led a balanced scoring attack with 21 points on 7-for-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Five different players dished off at least three assists, including Edward Flynn who had nine points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Daniel Aronowitz added eight points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals while Bobby Casey chipped in seven points and three assists off the bench.
A Coloutti three tied the game 3-3 in the opening minutes, but 13 consecutive points by the Ephs gave them a 16-3 advantage. They extended the lead to 23-9 midway through the period, before a jumper by Parrish pulled Castleton within 12. Ryan Merget later connected on a triple to drop the deficit to 14, 31-17, with 7:26 left, though Williams went on a 16-8 run over the next seven minutes for a 22-point lead. A layup by Edmund Fitzgerald in the final seconds off a feed from Parrish made it 47-27 at the break.
Castleton opened the second half on an 11-5 run, with back-to-back triples from Coloutti and Merget closing the Ephs' lead to 52-38 with 15:56 remaining. However, Teal pushed the advantage back to 15 with a three, jumpstarting a 13-0 spurt to put the game out of reach at 65-38 less than four minutes later. Williams extended its lead as high as 27 points twice in the final ten minutes before settling for the 26-point victory.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they travel to face Keene St. on Tuesday at 6 pm.
