Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Castleton was tied 31-apiece with Husson at the half, but the Eagles took control in the final 20 minutes on the way to a 73-61 victory in Newman Gym on Friday night.
The Spartans let a first-half lead slip away and finished the game shooting 42.4 percent from the floor and 7-for-29 from beyond arc as they dropped to 5-11 and 4-5 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Eagles improved to 11-3 and 9-0 in the NAC as they shot 45.8 percent from the floor and forced 19 turnovers.
Senior Rob Coloutti led the offense with 26 points, six rebounds and one steal. Tondi Mushandu added a double-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds and four assists while Lake Roberson chipped in six late points off the bench.
Trevon Butler was one of two Husson players in double figures with 17 points, eight rebounds and one steal. Justin Martin added ten points, six rebounds and three assists off the bench while the Spartans held Raheem Anderson to two points, 20 points below his season average.
Castleton jumped out to an early lead on a personal 8-1 run by Coloutti in the first four minutes. The Spartans then stretched their lead to 13-3 behind five straight points from Mushandu. At 12:48, Robbie Colarusso made it 18-10 on a triple and four minutes later back-to-back buckets by Coloutti and Colarusso extended the advantage to 25-12.
Husson's offense started clicking and the team went on a 15-2 run to tie the game, 27-27, on a free throw by Butler with 3:52 left in the half. Coloutti traded points with the Eagles over the next three minutes to keep the game tied and a last second three by Husson missed as the teams went into the break even at 31 apiece.
The Eagles jumped out to a 39-35 advantage three minutes into the second half and stretched their lead to 12, 49-37, on a Butler shot from beyond the arc at 13:11. Coloutti responded with a three of his own to make it a ten-point game and two minutes later Castleton trailed 54-44. However, Husson countered with a 14-2 run over the next five minutes for a 68-46 advantage with 5:13 left. Both teams subbed liberally over the last five minutes as the Spartan bench eventually closed it to a 12-point deficit behind late scoring from Roberson and Israel Dudley.
Castleton looks to get back on track when the team travels to face Maine Maritime at 3 pm tomorrow.
