PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Castleton's women's ice hockey team got back in the win column on Friday evening, defeating Plymouth St. by a final score of 4-1 in a New England Hockey Conference matchup.

Aimee Briand recorded her second three-point game of the season, tallying a pair of goals to go along with an assist in the victory for Castleton. Taylor Steadman also picked up multiple points, assisting on the first goal of the game before scoring one of her own in the third period.

Castleton moves to 11-2-2 overall on the year and 6-0-1 in NEHC play, while Plymouth St. falls to 6-9-0 overall and 2-5-0 in NEHC action.

Both teams came out of the gates firing, as they traded goals within the first 6:31 of the game. Hannah Rose opened the scoring for Castleton with her seventh goal of the season just 2:29 into the contest on an assist from Steadman. Plymouth St. answered back just more than four minutes later, when Alivia Bates found the back of the net assisted by Olivia Leon.

With 11 minutes to play in the middle frame, Steadman picked up a puck in the neutral zone and skated in one-on-one before being joined by Rose for a two-on-one break. Steadman sent a saucer pass to Rose on the left side, who batted the puck out of the air, hitting the post with the shot to keep the game even at 1-1. With time ticking down in the second period, Briand picked up a loose puck and skated in one-on-one with a Panthers' defender before pulling the trigger on a shot to the near side that snuck past Plymouth St. goalie Mariah Trupp to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead going into the final stanza.

The Spartans wasted little time getting back in the goal column in the third period, as Briand found the back of the net for the second time in the game and the fourth time on the season just 1:58 into the final frame. Chanel Tvergyak took a shot from the point that banked off the boards behind the net before Briand collected the puck and snuck it inside the near post to give her team a two-goal advantage. The Spartan offense would not let up, as Steadman would bury a rebound off of a shot by Briand on a Castleton power play with 7:39 gone in the final period to take a 4-1 lead, a score that would hold until the final horn.

Jess Cameron stopped 14 out of the 15 shots that she faced in the game, picking up her 11th victory of the season. Trupp collected 41 saves in her third loss of the year.

The Spartans had the advantage on special teams all game long, killing off all three of their penalties, while converting one of their two power-play opportunities into a goal in the third period. Castleton also held a heavy shot advantage, outshooting the Panthers 45-15 in the contest.

Castleton is back in action tomorrow night when they host No. 9 Norwich at Spartan Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
